Christ’s first command for someone who is saved is baptism. If you have received Jesus as your own Savior, you need to be baptized!
What is baptism?
1. Baptism is the believer being immersed in water to show identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. (Romans 6:4,5)
2. Baptism is the outward ____________________ of the inward decision to trust Christ alone for your salvation.
Baptism has nothing to do with the saving of your soul!
3. Baptism also identifies you us with His local church and its doctrine.
Acts 2:41,42.
Who should be baptized?
1. ____________ believers in Christ should be baptized. (Acts 8:36,37)
2. ____________ believers in Christ should be baptized. (Acts 2:41,42)
Why should we be baptized?
1. Obedience
a. Jesus set the _______________________. (Matthew 3:13-17)
b. God commanded it. (Matthew 28:19,20)
c. The Bible teaches it. (Acts 2:41,42; 8:37,38)
2. Love (John 14:15)
3. Joy (Acts 8:39)
How should we be baptized?
By immersion (going under the water), the only method the Bible teaches. (John 3:23; Matthew 3:13-17 (also Mark 1:9,10); Acts 8:38)
Baptism by immersion pictures the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, as well as what happened to me on the day I was saved.
When should we be baptized? (Acts 16:30-33)
You should choose to be baptized as soon as you can after your salvation.
What If I am not baptized? (James 4:17)
Some never get going on the joyful journey of the Christian life because they have not yet taken the first step: Biblical baptism.
